Guest Panelists

Charles Slocum, assistant executive director of the Writers Guild of America West in the area of strategy and industry research, has worked for the Guild for over twenty years and previously worked at Paramount Pictures in finance and at ABC in audience research. 

Mr. Slocum has an MA from Fuller Seminary in Theology and the Arts, an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University.  Slocum is vice chair of Act One and is active at Bel Air Presbyterian Church.

Chris Riley is the director of the Act One Writing Program and a screenwriter whose first film, After The Truth (an award-winning courtroom thriller written with his wife and professional partner, Kathy), sparked international controversy in 1999 when it was released in Germany.  Other credits include 25 To Life (dramatic thriller/Touchstone Pictures); The Other White House (political thriller/Sean Connery’s Fountainbridge Films); Aces (action-adventure romance/Paramount Pictures); and a screen adaptation of the book Actual Innocence (Mandalay Television Pictures and the Fox Television Network). 

Mr. Riley, a veteran of the Warner Bros. script department, serves as an adjunct professor at John Paul Catholic University in San Diego and is the author of The Hollywood Standard: The Complete and Authoritative Guide to Script Format and Style.
